Discovering Niuland: The Young And Diverse District Of Nagaland
Niuland is a newly created district that was formerly under Dimapur, the commercial district of Nagaland. It was officially recognized on December 18, 2021, with Niuland town as the headquarters.
The district is home to all tribal groups of the state; hence it’s known as the “Land of Diversity”. The name ‘Niuland’ is derived from the Sumi dialect ‘NIU-LAND’ which means ‘Our Land’.
It’s connected to Dimpaur, Chümoukedima, Tseminyü, and Kohima districts making it a strategically important location. In fact, the district is reported as a potential launch pad for an industrial and commercial hub into Southeast Asia.
Niuland is where hills meet the plains. The district is 28 km away from Dimapur and 68km away from the state’s capital. While the district is still in the development stage, the place has a lot to offer. It’s a perfect getaway to re-energize your mind and soul. The district has over 106 villages, each offering something new.
