Dimapur to Mokokchung

The distance between Dimapur and Mokokchung is approximately 196 km when traveling via NH2 and 208 km via Merapani, Assam. The travel time takes an average of 6-8 hours depending on the intended location in Mokokchung.

Traveling by road is the most common means to reach the district because most of the district consists of hilly regions making it difficult to build railways and airports. Chopper services are available but they require booking and are costlier.

  • Private service – Tickets for private buses and sumo can be purchased from the Inter-State Private Bus Station, Half Nagarjan. Bus services are available throughout the week except on Sundays. As for the price, it can range from Rs 600 – Rs 1000 depending on the destination.
  • Public Service – Tickets for the NST bus can be purchased for Rs 350 per person from the Nagaland Transport Bus station, Civil Hospital Colony.
  • Chopper service Nagaland State Transport, chopper Services are also available from Dimapur to Mokochung with a mere 40 minutes fly time. This service costs Rs 2600 per person.
  • Car rental- Kabzi is a reliable car rental service provider located on the 3rd mile near the airport. The price range of cars depends on the type of car you want to rent as well as the distance you are planning to cover daily.

Kohima to Mokokchung

  • Private service – Tickets for private buses can be purchased from LIM Travels and Services located on PWD Road, opposite Seyie Gas Station.
  • Public service – Tickets for the NST bus can be purchased from the NST Bus Station located in the Main Town of Kohima, opposite the Multi-level Parking facility. The tickets cost Rs 220 per person.

April to October is an ideal time for visiting Mokokchung as the weather is pleasant and two of the main festivals are held during the starting months of May and August.

Pork is a common diet in the district, be it fresh pork or smoked pork. Aside from the meat, large varieties of local greens are also available.

Although the local people have their own dialect, the majority of the people are educated and can properly converse in Hindi and English.

The Ao people have two major festivals namely Moatsü and Tsungrem Mong. They are celebrated in the starting months of May and August respectively.

The celebration is held with food, dancing, and singing. During these festivals ‘Rice beer’ a local alcoholic beverage made of rice is also largely consumed.
