How to reach Kiphire: Transportation

Travel By Road

For travelers traveling to Kiphire, there are two means of transportation you can opt for. They are by air or by road.

Dimapur is the best starting point for any tourist traveling to Kiphire from outside the state of Nagaland as the only train station and the airport station of the state are both located in Dimapur, which is the main commercial hub of Nagaland.

By Road:

For anyone travelling to Nagaland from any part of the world will land at the Dimapur airport which is the only airport in the state. On landing, you can book a local taxi which will cost you about 2000-2500 rupees according to the season you opt for your next trip to Kiphire.

However, if you are a first time tourist to Nagaland, Fast Cab Service, a car rental service in Dimapur is also highly recommended among tourists.

Another good option is by bus, a service provided by the Nagaland State Transport for any domestic and international travelers to travel to get to different parts of Nagaland.

  • From Dimapur to Pungro: A local sumo taxi will cost you about Rs 1300.
  • From Pungro to Thanamir village: a shared taxi will cost Rs. 250 while a fully hired taxi will cost you Rs 3000.

POV: it is always safe not to book taxis on apps or online while you are traveling in any part of Nagaland. It is best advised to do the way the locals do.

By Air: The Chopper Service

The Nagaland state government has officially flagged off the airway mode of transportation, that is by helicopter to different parts of the state.

The chopper service runs mostly on Wednesdays from Dimapur to Pungro. The fare sums to about Rs. 1500 – Rs. 2000.
