Benreu is a tourist village in Peren district that is known for its rich flora and fauna. The village is built on a hill overlooking the dense forest in the area. Tourists visiting this village can expect to see native animals and birds thriving all over the surrounding wildlife sanctuary. Mithun, the state animal of Nagaland can be seen in large numbers in this area.
Benreu is greatly known for its cultural tourism, as the people here highly value traditional practices passed down through their ancestors. Additionally, if you visit this village, don’t pass out on trying Kennie Nku, the local bread traditionally made from sticky rice and baked in a heated stone kiln.

The third highest peak in Nagaland, Mt. Pauna, is set along the Benreu range, making it a great option for trekking while experiencing the rich nature of the mountains.
To make your way up to Mt. Pauna, travelers need to reach Benreu village either by trekking or hiring a cap. Then hike 6 km to reach Mt. Pauna.
Mt. Pauna is also a great spot for wildlife enthusiasts, threatened species such as the Rufous-necked Hornbill, Oriental Pied and Brown Hornbill can be found here. Also, the butterfly empress, which was said to have been extinct in 1924, was rediscovered here after 94 years, proving that these mountains are a safe haven for wildlife conservation.

One of the most famous tourist spots in Peren, the Poilwa Caves is a hidden gem for adventurous travelers. Located at a distance of 30 km from Peren, the caves are said to be 500 years old and allow people to experience the architectural talent of nature through the beautiful rock formations of the cave.
The cave also holds great historical value for the people of Poilwa because it was used as a hideout and shelter by the villagers during times of war and conflict.

Located 25 km from Peren in the Nzauna village is Mt. Kisa. With breathtaking views of the valley from the peak while surrounded by rich vegetation, this spot displays the beauty of Peren.

First declared a reserved forest in 1923, this is the only national park in Nagaland. The park is spread over 200 sq km and located 40 km from Peren.
Flora and fauna thrive in Ntangki, making it a dream spot for nature lovers and wildlife photographers. Among the vast variety of animals, the main attraction of the park is the Hoolok Gibbon, found only in Nagaland.
However, the forest also hosts animals like tigers and leopards, packs of wild dogs, sloth bears, Mithuns and adorable flying squirrels that can be seen gliding from one tree to another.
