Tsumang Lake

As soon as you reach the district, the nearest tourist attraction or natural feature in the region to explore is Tsumang Lake, which is nestled right in the heart of the main town of Wokha.

Doyang River Valley

Visiting Doyang River Valley anyone? It is the largest river in Nagaland making it one of the top tourist destinations in the district and is located approximately 38 km from the main town of Wokha.

Apart from witnessing the majestic views of landscapes, forests, and diverse fauna and flora that nature lovers are drawn to, the Doyang River Valley also has recreational activities for tourists such as fishing, boat riding, etc.

Additionally, there are numerous camping sites and resorts within the area, so if you seek the perfect escape, blending in with nature, this is the ideal route to consider.

Pangti Village

Located approximately 80.4km (49.9 miles) away from the district’s main town, Pangti village is one of the biggest villages in the district and a tourist site you don’t want to miss out on, especially if you’re a bird enthusiast.

For context, Nagaland is called the Amur Falcon capital of the world. As such, hundreds of thousands of these migratory raptors arrive in Nagaland between October and November.

The Pangti Village offers a safe passage to the watch tower where you can witness these beautiful birds. On the contrary, the village is surrounded by pristine forests, so even if you arrive before the mentioned months, you can still camp and explore the areas crowded with numerous species of flora and fauna.

Mount Tiyi

Ready for a good trek? Mount Tiyi, also known as Tiyi Enung and “abode of souls” stands at an altitude of 1,970 m, and is the highest peak in the district. Trekkers who successfully reach the highest peak are treated to the most breathtaking view of the entire surrounding villages and forests.

Additionally, the locals believe that the souls of their past ancestors gather around the mountain with past sightings being reported among them. So if you see any friendly souls lingering around, be sure to say hi.

Side note – The peak is the only natural habitat for Rhododendrons, adding more depth to the experience.

Mount Totsu

The last one on this list is the famous Mount Totsu, located 25 km away from the district’s main town, and stands 1,250 m above sea level, making it the second-highest peak in Wokha.

However, despite the mountain offering a full view of the valley beneath it, surprisingly, it is mainly popular for its myths and legends. Locals believe that two deities, a giant snake and a crab guard its premises.

Furthermore, there are numerous small lakes and ponds beneath the feet of the mountain, where the local myths and stories multiply. So together with an enchanting experience, and witnessing alluring nature, trekking Mount Totsu is not one to miss out on.
